| NewsRoom™
is a Strategy Software-developed Web Application
that is installed on a server of the client.
There are two main roles:
NewsRoom Publisher
The Publisher decides what news sources
are of interest, what news items are worthy
of sharing, what category they belong to
and other general application administration.
Reader
The Reader is anyone allowed to visit
the NewsRoom site to peruse the published
news summaries, drill down to the original
& full news item or download attached
documents, but is not able to administer
NewsRoom.
As such the role of Publisher and Reader
are similar to those with a conventional
Newspaper or News-letter. The NewsRoom Publisher
can designate RSS Sources of interest, i.e.
listings of news items to be monitored.
In many cases though, what is to be monitored
is not a RSS Source, in such cases the Publisher
can instigate the creation of a virtual
(RSS) Source on FeedCenter (a virtual source
is in essence an html page that is converted
to RSS 2.0 specifications and placed on
the FeedCenter for use by NewsRoom instead
of the actual html page).
The Publisher can review new news items
'Headlines' and decide which ones to publish
(i.e. make visible to the intended internal
audience). Published headlines are grouped
in user-definable categories. Headlines
can be published with or without an implication
commentary from the Publisher. Headlines
can also have files attached to them for
further details. The attachments could be
the complete news source, audio files, videos,
presentations, whatever could be of use
to have readily accessible to the Readers.
Readers who visit the NewsRoom can look
over the latest Headlines 24 x 7 as well
as dig into older Headlines with a powerful
way to filter news items to suit their individual
needs. Publishers have the ability to send
headlines as "hot alerts" via
e-mail (in addition to publishing it). Publishers
have the ability to send a e-mail-based
newsletter (that can be interest group specific)
on a regular basis (in addition to publishing
it to an intranet, extranet or web page).
This permits the publishers to make sure
its Readership gets the news it needs without
having to ask the Readers to even visit
the NewsRoom.
